Raydar Autobody Sponsors the Mission Soapbox Derby

Raydar’s Quality Assured Collision and Glass was proud to take part in and sponsor the Mission Soapbox Derby a couple of weeks ago. On August 23rd, the Mission & District Soapbox Derby Association held their annual Soapbox Derby on Stave Lake Street to members of the community.

Raydar Autobody sponsored the Soapbox Derby for the first time this year. They supplied all of the event t-shirts, putting Quality Assured Collision and Glass logos on the backs of the Derby shirts. They also had a logoed tent set up and they sponsored one of the racecars, wrapping it in the company logo. It looked great!

“The event was so much fun!” said Carrie Dunnett of Raydar Autobody. “We had our tent set up with face painting for the kids, and we all had such a great time.” The whole Raydar family went: Carrie, her husband (Jim), her dad (Lonnie), and their two children. “My dad used to race in the Soapbox Derby in the 60’s and he got to see both of his grandkids in it this year” said Carrie. In fact, one of their children, Teagan, even won the top prize, a $500 bursary for “Fastest Mission Racer” overall, which was quite a feat.

The Soapbox Derby was originally started in 1946 and was reinstated in 1999 after a 25-year absence. It draws many spectators and participants year after year. This year, the Mayor of Mission, Ted Adlum, went head-to-head in a race with the mayor of Abbotsford, Bruce Banman. The Mayor of Mission actually raced in the Raydar Autobody-wrapped racecar—talk about good publicity!

There are events for ages 8-14 and prizes handed out for categories such as “Rookie of the Year” and “Most Sportsmanlike,” among others. The best part is even if you don’t have a racecar, you can rent one at the event for no additional cost so that you can participate. “We’ll definitely be back next year,” said Carrie, “we hope to see everyone there again!”

Everyone at Quality Assured Collision and Glass is so thrilled that Raydar Autobody was there to sponsor the Mission Soapbox Derby and that they had a great time. Don’t forget, if you ever need any repair work done on your vehicle, contact any one of our 13 locations and we’ll be glad to help get your vehicle in tip-top shape.
