The Gordey family of Armstrong Collision is basking in a recent family accomplishment at the National Skills Competition!
Kurtis Gordey, son of Brian and Verna, and brother to Chris, placed fourth in his age group at the National Skills Canada Competition this year, which was held in Vancouver. He competed at the national competition after winning the gold medal for BC at the Skills BC Competition in Abbotsford earlier this year.
Kurtis has recently finished grade 11 and has participated in the Accelerated Credit Enrollment in Industry Training (ACE-IT) program. When asked about his son’s hard work and training, his father, Brian, noted that “through the ACE-IT program he has completed his level 1 auto body. In the fall, he will be attending Okanagan University College to do his level 2 auto body while completing his grade 12 year at A.L. Fortune Secondary School in Enderby.”
During the National Skills Competition, Kurtis had to complete a multitude of tasks that included repairing a plastic bumper and a damaged fender on the first day, and sectioning and welding an A-Pillar panel on the second day. It was a lot of work, but his skills and education paid off very hard.
Brian is very proud that Kurtis is “currently working at Armstrong Collision to get his hours in” during the summer and while he’s in school. “He just purchased a big tool box and is very excited about his up-and-coming career.”
